Three distinguished voices across two days of research and practice
Simon Borg has been involved in ELT for over 35 years, working as a teacher, teacher educator, lecturer, and researcher across a wide range of international contexts. He now works primarily as an educational consultant, with a particular focus on designing, implementing, and evaluating language teacher education and professional development policies and programmes. He has published widely and completed educational consultancy assignments in over 30 countries. His recent work focuses on reforming pre-service teacher education in national contexts, and collaborating with Ministries of Education to develop competency and professional development frameworks for teachers of English.
Zeynep Çamlıbel-Acar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language Teaching at the Atatürk Faculty of Education, Marmara University, where she has been serving since 2005. She has extensive experience in English language teacher education and has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses at Marmara University, as well as at Yeditepe and Boğaziçi Universities. Her research interests centre on the learning and teaching of second and foreign language skills, English language teaching to young learners, and language teacher education. Her recent work has focused particularly on parental involvement and extramural English activities in the lives of young language learners.
Hossein Farhady is a former professor of applied linguistics who received his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from UCLA. His major area of interest is research on various aspects of language testing and assessment. He has taught at the MA and Ph.D. levels for over four decades across Iran, Canada, Armenia, and the USA, and has published around 10 textbooks and 50 articles, largely in the field of language assessment. He has directed MA programmes in TEFL and nationwide research projects on EFL/EAP, supervised over 60 theses and dissertations, and received multiple honours including two ILTA awards, research grants from Pearson and ETS, and a lifetime achievement award from the ELT Society. From 2013 to 2024 he served as a faculty member in the ELT Department at Yeditepe University. He is currently working as an assessment and research consultant.
